Our more traditional forms of determining a student’s career interests (inventories, surveys, questionnaires) may be a good starting point, but we want to dig deeper and give students more authentic ways of finding out if a career choice is right for them. MVP Transition Consulting can help with facilitating opportunities for students to learn more about the day-to-day demands of careers they’re interested in. For instance, we can always start with providing students with volunteer opportunities. This allows them to gain exposure to the work environment of their career choice without making a full commitment yet. In addition, we can facilitate tours of worksites, arrange for informational interviews with employees, or shadowing an employee throughout their workday. These are all ways students can further explore and discover more about their initial career interest. All these activities help our students develop a person-centered plan for future employment based on recognizing their strengths and how they bring value to their future employer.
